Alexander John White


U.S.-born painter and ill. He became a fashionable portrait painter in the 1880s. In Paris, 1890—1901, he was a friend of Whistler and Rodin, and was influenced by the Art Nouveau. He executed murals at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. (1895—96) and the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh (1905—15).
